AT&T Mobile TV: May 4th in three packages?

Okay, first the bad news: we’re hearing that AT&T’s most expensive Mobile TV package is going to run a stiff $30 a month. Now, the good: you’re paying for a heck of a lot more than just tee-vee there. Our tipster tells us that AT&T is expecting to launch a grand total of three packages of its MediaFLO-based service come the 4th of next month; first up is Limited, which will run $13 a month and offer Fox, CBS, NBC, and NBC News. This one is so limited, in fact, AT&T’s limiting it right off their website — it seems you’ll have to call customer service to get hold of this particular setup. Next is Basic at $15 a month (seriously, who’s going to not pay the $2 more over Basic?), which includes the full range of channels: the aforementioned four plus Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, CNN Mobile, Sony Pictures, and ESPN. Finally, the Plus package should feature the same lineup as Basic but bundles unlimited MEdia Net and Cellular Video for $30 a month, and we suspect this is the plan most Mobile TV subscribers are going to snatch up. We still think this could end up being a tough pill to swallow for a lot of power users who’ve graduated to SlingPlayer Mobile, but with simpler devices like the Samsung Access (pictured) in the mix for Mobile TV, who knows — they might find a target demographic yet.

Giant Urinal or Rotating Shower Bath

This is a bit of a twist (well spin) on a traditional bathroom, a bath one minute but a with a 180 degree turn it transforms into a shower.

Designed by Ron Arad, the “Rotator” is made out of duralight® and is more of a work of art than just a simple bath. However looking at it does not fill me confidence about the comfort of bathing in it. To empty the bath simply rotate it until the water overflows, just make sure you have a drainage in your bathroom floor.

Cricket Ball Knows How Fast It Is Going

Somehow sports that feature projectiles in a game (badminton, soccer, cricket, squash, tennis) have given birth to obsession such as the “fastest serve in the world”. In cricket, the fastest a ball was delivered is approximately 100mph, but those are the domain of professionals. What if you’re a budding cricket fan who adores the sport and want to know just how fast you will be able to bowl that cricket ball? Well, instead of getting a friend to stand at your side and using radar guns to capture the necessary statistics, why not use this Speedsensor cricket ball? For AUD$55 a pop, you get the official size, shape and weight of a standard cricketball, complete with a small LCD readout on one face. The only drawback is the need to program just how far the object is away before you bowl it…too much math…brain…exploding!

Pioneer AVIC-F500BT Almost Here

The Pioneer AVIC-F500BT is almost here now after receiving approval from the FCC, offering one of the larger screens where GPS naviation systems are concerned at 5.8″. It provides door-to-door driving directions and is able to connect to virtually anything in your vehicle, pairing up with your handset thanks to Bluetooth while boasting support for an optional TMC antenna. Heck, the ND-BC2 add-on also allows you to connect it to a rear view camera for those who question their own reverse parking skills. Patience is a virtue, friends, so don’t go blow that wad of cash you have at the moment on something frivolous as you wait for the Pioneer AVIC-F500BT to hit the streets.

Hulu coming soon to a phone near you?

With Hulu fresh out of the private beta status, there are now talks that they are looking to expand to other platforms, such as mobile phones. Overall it seems like a logical place to go and although Hulu CEO has made some comments they have been pretty generic up to this point. During the recent NAB video production expo, Jason Kilar was quoted as saying that “anything connected to the Internet” would be a possible match in the future, he also briefly mentioned the possibility of cellphones but failed to commit to any specific platform or device.

One issue that would be a hold up, or at least make for a slow roll out would be due to the wide variety of cellphones on the market. You would think that something along the lines of the iphone would make for a nice viewing experience, but the lack of Flash support could cause issues with Hulu’s current ad system.

As a user of Hulu, I can say that the desktop experience has been good so far, as for going mobile with the service, some mixed feelings come to mind. While it would be a nice option to have while on the go, it would be a concern that these shows are being streamed and not downloaded, thus potentially making a slow or choppy viewing experience. Either way it will be interesting to see where Hulu takes their service in the future.

MSI lets loose more details on the Wind

The MSI Wind, which was originally unveiled during CeBIT just left us wanting more in the line of details. While we already had some information, some of it has just been confirmed by MSI.

The Wind will offer either an 8.9-inch or 10-inch display with both sizes having a 1024 x 600 resolution, an 80GB hard drive and weigh in at just 2.2-pounds. The notebook will be available this June in the European market and retail somewhere between 299 - 699 Euros (around $471-$1100 US). The Wind will also be running Windows XP, which may explain the higher price range.

While MSI has confirmed that pricing, lets hope they can narrow it down a little more as to just what we can expect at the low and/or high end.

Casio Exilim EX-Z80 features Heartbreaks

Now is this a cute digital camera or what - the Casio Exilim EX-Z80’s interface is rather comical when you think about it, providing some relief for folks who are just too serious in their life. Heck, it will literally display a heartbroken image should it fail to focus on your subject, but you can also choose other images such as stars, flowers and even babies to break whenever you snap a blurry one. Stars and flowers are fine, but babies?!? Hopefully this firmware will be able to find its way outside of Japan - keep your fingers crossed, folks!

Wii Fit

There have been numerous reports of Geeks using the Nintendo Wii in their exercise regime to lose weight. The interactivity of the gaming platform has in no doubt contributed to the incredible sales figures related to the consohttp://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000VJRU44/gizmoforge01-20″>Wii Fit is scheduled to be released on May 21st. If you want this product, you should definitely consider pre-ordering (I just pre-ordered mine!), otherwise you might have to deal with some lines and the possibility of the product being sold out.

Why the Wii Fit? Why is this product probably going to sell out quickly? The Wii Fit includes a ground-breaking controller pad for the Wii console called the Wii Balance Board that allows you to lean to block soccer balls, swivel hips to power hoop twirls or balance and hold the perfect yoga pose. The Wii Balance Board figures out your body’s overall balance and ties this information to the included games. Using Wii Fit for daily tests, you can evaluate and track progress of Body Mass Index (BMI) which is a weight evaluation based on a ratio of weight to height as well as your Wii Fit Age which is measured by factoring the user’s BMI reading, testing the user’s center of gravity and using the results of various tests.

Iomega Media Xporter Brings Plug-and-Play Storage to Game Consoles

Since not everyone has enough technical know-how to properly connect an ordinary external USB hard drive to an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, Iomega has announced the immediate availability of its new 160GB Media Xporter Drive. Iomega says that its wallet-sized drive has been tested for seamless compatibility with the game consoles to eliminate the guesswork often involved in transcoding file formats and the nonsense that goes along with it.

Users simply fill the drive with music, photos, and movies (conversion software is included) and plug the Xporter’s USB 2.0 "Y" cable into the Xbox/playstation’s USB 2.0 port. Done. The console is now able to play an entire media library in HDTV resolutions up to 1080p.

For gamers who are more familiar with controllers than keyboards (not all game geeks are computer geeks, after all), the Media Xporter promises a simple way to get media on their consoles. That, one hopes, should justify its $114 retail price, which is close to double what a generic 160GB USB drive costs.
